We were asked to construct a bespoke garden shed, using two party walls in the shed structure, to integrate the outdoor self-contained boiler-house unit into the new shed, and finish with a lean-to roof at the required height. We also had to use materials that would blend well with the overall aesthetic of the house and estate.

• First, having installed a gully-trap, we laid out the shed base, using concrete slabs.
• Then we built up the walls, made of timber frame with breathable membrane, and an exterior finish of ship-lap cladding boards.
• We applied clear decking oil to match the surrounding fence panels.
• We installed the timber-frame roof, with breathable membrane, and corrugated steel. From a samples catalogue, we selected a colour that would match the surroundings roofs.
• We used 18mm hardwood faced plywood for the interior wall and ceiling of the garden shed. This allows shelves and wall units to be easily installed.
• We moved a base unit, wall unit and worktop from the house (which were available because of some changes there) to the shed and adjusted them so they would fit into it neatly.
• Finally, we extended the boiler flue and relocated the weather compensation sensor.

Alin was professional through-out the project from pre-design to completion and post-completion, listening carefully to our requirements and offering constructive advice when he thought something would (or would not) work.
